Corn Marigold Wildflower Seed

Product Code: 130JC2025-pro

Bright yellow daisy-like flowers. Corn Marigold is virtually extinct in the wild, so the continued collection and re-sowing of this seed is important.

Corn Marigold it is not a true native, but was probably introduced in ancient times with grain. Its original home is probably western Asia and the Mediterranean. It has been found in Scottish neolithic deposits and so probably arrived with the neolithic introduction of agriculture.

This wild plant is of medium height and the flowers are golden-yellow discs with prominent ray florets. These are borne singly on the ends of the stems. The leaves are deeply toothed, slightly fleshy, hairless and covered with a waxy layer that gives them a greenish blue-grey colour.

Wildflower Site Preparation

The site should be weed free. Annual weeds should be controlled by mechanical means or by the use of contact based herbicide. Perennial weeds, for example docks thistle, nettles and couch grass can be dealt with using a translocated herbicide such as Round-Up. Cultivate to achieve a fine seed bed, sow seed mix and then roll to ensure firmness. The best results are obtained when there is good contact between the soil and the seeds.

Sowing Times

Sowing can best be achieved by mixing the seed with dry sand, dry sifted topsoil or sawdust and evenly broadcast. It is important that the seed is in contact with moisture in the soil so the seedbed should be lightly raked and then rolled.
