Water’s Edge Soils 100% Wildflowers – JC8005

A native wildflower mix for damp, water-retentive soils. Ideal for wetland, pond edge, floodplain, and BNG projects with long-term ecological value.

Water’s Edge Soils 100% Wildflowers (JC8005) is a native wildflower seed mixture designed for damp, high-water retention areas with seasonal drainage. Ideal for wetlands, pond edges, floodplains, and riparian zones, this 100% wildflower mix establishes a visually striking and ecologically valuable sward that supports biodiversity in water-sensitive habitats.

The species composition includes perennials and selected biennials that tolerate waterlogged winter conditions but remain resilient during drier periods. JC8005 delivers long flowering seasons, structural diversity, and habitat for pollinators, invertebrates, and wetland birds.

This mixture is perfect for landscape architects, BNG schemes, conservation projects, ecological restoration, parkland, and wetland creation, providing a robust, low-maintenance solution for damp soils with seasonal water fluctuations.

  • Seedbed Preparation: Prepare a fine, firm seedbed. Remove aggressive or competitive species before sowing.
  • Sowing Time: Best sown in spring or autumn when soil is moist.
  • Sowing Rate: Broadcast evenly and lightly roll to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
  • Establishment: Flowering begins in the first season, with full sward diversity developing over 2–3 seasons.
  • Management: Cut or manage lightly once or twice per year to prevent shading of smaller species. Remove arisings to avoid nutrient accumulation.
  • Long-Term Care: Avoid fertilisers and minimise soil disturbance to maintain species diversity.

Location overview Best suited to open, damp soils with high water retention, including seasonal floodplains, pond margins, wet meadows, and marshy areas. Performs well across rural and urban water-sensitive landscapes.
Shade tolerance Prefers full sun to light partial shade. Flowering may reduce under dense shade conditions.
Soil type Damp, high-water retention soils with seasonal drainage. Can tolerate temporary waterlogging in winter.
Soil fertility Low to moderate fertility is ideal. Avoid fertiliser to maintain botanical diversity.
