Corncockle Wildflower – JC1436

Annual pink-purple wildflower ideal for pollinator-friendly meadows, field margins, and ornamental borders. Quick to establish and low-maintenance.

Corncockle (Agrostemma githago) Wildflower (JC1436) is a charming annual wildflower renowned for its striking pink to purple blooms and slender, upright stems. Highly attractive to pollinators, including bees and hoverflies, Corncockle adds ecological value and visual interest to field margins, wildflower meadows, and ornamental plantings.

Quick to establish and low-maintenance, this species is ideal for BNG schemes, public parks, garden borders, and rural meadows. Corncockle thrives in open, sunny locations and provides seasonal colour while supporting biodiversity across a wide range of soils.

  • Seedbed Preparation: Prepare a fine, firm seedbed free from weeds and competing vegetation. Ensure good seed-to-soil contact for optimal germination.
  • Sowing Time: Best sown in spring or early autumn when soil moisture is consistent.
  • Sowing Rate: Broadcast evenly over the prepared area. Lightly firm but avoid burying seeds deeply
  • Establishment: Annual species germinate quickly, producing upright stems and vibrant pink-purple flowers in the first season.
  • Management: Minimal maintenance is required. Allow natural self-seeding for continuous displays in following seasons.
  • Long-Term Care: Re-sowing is required annually to maintain flowering displays. Avoid fertilisers for optimal performance.
