Calcareous Soils Wildflower Plug Plants Mix

A carefully selected mix of UK native wildflower plug plants for calcareous and chalk soils. Quick to establish, pollinator-friendly, and ideal for ecological landscaping and public spaces.

The Calcareous Soils Wildflower Plug Plants Mix has been carefully designed for chalky, limestone, and lime-rich soils where many standard wildflower mixtures struggle to establish. This mix is ideal for ecological enhancement projects, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) schemes, public open spaces, parks, roadside verges, and private estates.

Grown as plug plants rather than seed, this mix provides reliable establishment, quicker visual impact, and improved survival on challenging alkaline soils. The selected wildflower species support a wide range of pollinators including bees, butterflies, hoverflies, and other beneficial insects, delivering long-term biodiversity value with minimal ongoing maintenance.

Suitable for both urban and rural landscapes, this mix offers a sustainable, low-input solution for calcareous ground conditions.

  • Site Preparation: Remove existing vegetation and prepare a weed-free planting area. Light cultivation may help on compacted soils.
  • Planting Time: Best planted in spring or autumn when soil moisture is available.
  • Planting Density: Space plug plants approximately 20–30cm apart to allow for mature spread.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly after planting and during dry periods until plants are established.
  • Establishment: Plug plants establish quickly, producing strong root systems and early flowering.
  • Ongoing Management: Cut back in late autumn or early spring. Remove arisings to maintain low soil fertility and encourage flowering.
