Biodiverse Green Roof BNG Wildflower Mix – JC4176

Native perennial wildflower seed mix for biodiverse green roofs and BNG projects, supporting pollinators and long-term urban ecology.

The Biodiverse Green Roof BNG Wildflower Mix (JC4176) is a carefully formulated blend of native UK perennial wildflowers, designed specifically for use on green roofs and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) projects. This resilient seed mix supports long-term ecological value while delivering a visually rich and pollinator-friendly rooftop habitat.

Containing a balanced selection of native species such as Agrimony, Common Bird’s-foot-trefoil, Lady’s Bedstraw, Betony, Field Scabious, Red Poppy, and Viper’s-bugloss, the mix has been developed to thrive in the challenging, low-nutrient conditions typical of green roof substrates. These species are naturally drought-tolerant, robust, and well suited to exposed rooftop environments.

Ideal for urban greening, SuDS schemes, rewilding initiatives, and local authority developments, this mix contributes directly to biodiversity enhancement while meeting the ecological objectives of planning-led BNG requirements. Over time, it establishes into a dynamic, species-rich rooftop meadow that supports bees, butterflies, moths, and other beneficial insects.

  • Sow onto a free-draining, low-fertility green roof substrate
  • Ensure substrate depth is appropriate for wildflower establishment (typically 80–150mm)
  • Sow at the recommended rate of 3g per m²
  • Best sown in spring or autumn
  • Lightly firm seed into the surface; do not bury deeply
  • Water during dry periods until seedlings are established
  • Avoid high-nutrient fertilisers as these reduce wildflower diversity
  • Remove aggressive weeds during establishment
  • Ongoing maintenance is minimal once established
