John Chambers Supports Grassington Wildflower Meadow

John Chambers Wildflower Seed helps Grassington establish a species-rich wildflower meadow, promoting pollinators, community engagement, and biodiversity across the Yorkshire Dales.

John Chambers Wildflower Seed has donated a custom mix of native wildflower seed to help create a vibrant new wildflower meadow in Grassington. As part of the Green-tech family—the UK’s award-winning landscaping supplier—John Chambers Wildflower Seed has a long history of supporting community and ecological projects across the UK.

The new meadow, located on Springfield Road, is a collaboration between Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT), Grassington in Bloom, and children from Grassington Primary School, creating a species-rich habitat that supports local wildlife and engages the community.

Supporting Pollinators and Community Action

The Grassington meadow is part of a wider network of wildlife-friendly areas across the Dales, designed to reverse the decline in pollinators. The project is supported by the Bee Together programme, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, which encourages local communities to establish habitats for wild pollinators.

Catherine Mercer, YDMT’s Bee Together Officer, commented:

“The support and enthusiasm from the community in Grassington has been incredible. From passers-by helping strip turf, to children spreading seed, and local farmers providing tractors, trailers, and space—the village has really come together.”

Connecting a National Network of Habitats

The Grassington meadow also contributes to a national network of ‘B-Lines’ mapped by Buglife—insect pathways running through towns and countryside to support pollinators like bees, butterflies, and other wildlife. This B-Line stretches across the Yorkshire Dales, Aire Valley, and Lancashire, creating stepping stones that allow pollinators to move between habitats, enhancing biodiversity at a regional and national level.

Catherine Mercer adds:

“Bringing communities together to take action for pollinators is what the Bee Together project is all about. I’m looking forward to seeing the meadow flourish—and the fun people will have managing it!”

John Chambers Wildflower Seed’s support of the Grassington meadow demonstrates the impact of combining community engagement with ecological restoration. By donating native wildflower seed and supporting local initiatives, John Chambers continues to help create vibrant, pollinator-friendly landscapes that benefit both people and wildlife.
