National Nest Box Week
National Nest Box Week runs from 14th-21st February every year, and has been doing so for over 20 years now.The main aim for the week is to raise awareness for the importance of nest boxes in the pursuit of wildlife protection and conservation.
The start date has been picked as Valentines Day as that is regarded as the day that most birds choose their partners for the upcoming breeding season.
At John Chambers we are passionate about wildlife conservation and believe that all wild birds deserve a place to breed and raise their young, which is why we provide a wide range of Bird Nesting Boxes.
In recent years National Nest Box Week has gained importance as people begin to build more houses or extend buildings, which can eliminate many natural nesting sites for birds.
Many modern houses also don’t have nooks and crannies on the roof like older buildings had that many birds would use as a nesting site, which further increases the need for nest boxes in gardens.
Deforestation has also become a problem for most wild birds, as their natural nesting sites may have been located inside trees that have been cut down or lost to natural causes.
It is estimated that there are currently around 6 million nest boxes in the UK at the moment, a figure which is continually growing as environmental conservation becomes more popular and National Nest Box Week becomes more recognized.
Not only do nest boxes benefit the birds that can rest and breed in them, but they can have a positive impact on your mental health if you are attracting more wildlife to your garden.Watching birds raise their young can be a great stress reliever and offers a welcome distraction from the hustle and bustle of working life.
Our team are always available to discuss the many benefits of nest boxes and why you should consider purchasing one for your garden. If you want more information or advice on the subject, be sure to get in touch with us on 01423 369730, or browse our range of Bird Nesting Boxes on our website.
